Oh, LL

I just put LL back in bed after tonight's post-bedtime potty party. This has become her predictable pattern each night: bedtime routine (last step being going to the potty before getting into bed for lights out, prayers, and kisses), then 5-15 minutes later, we hear her back in the bathroom (even though we've told her to stay in bed because we know she JUST went). When we go in there, she assures us she has to go to the potty and needs more time, which translated means she needs more time to sing songs and read the available books with her own plots twists. It is clearly a lot of fun for her, getting to express those last creative thoughts of the day. Tonight when I went in she was "reading" a book about Freddie the tugboat and incorporated a plotline inspired by her own (opposite) experience this week; she said, "Hooray for Freddie! He gets to have treats because he didn't put stickers on the wall!" However, most nights we are major potty party poopers and just want to get her straight back to bed!

A few more LL stories:
One day this week at lunch, LL suddenly and enthusiastically said: "You disgust me!" I immediately told her that wasn't a kind thing to say, but then I realized she actually said, "You discussed me!" In her Cinderella book she noticed the part where the duke and the prince's father "discussed" needing to find a wife for the prince. We had talked a little about that part one night weeks ago and I had forgotten it until her lunchtime comment. Anyway, we went on with our afternoon, but then at supper, she said again, "You discussed me!" in the same jubilant way. This time I knew what she was saying, but before I could comment, Trey said, "LL, that's not a good thing to say." We got it cleared up and had a good laugh, but I think it'll be a while before she understands and knows how to correctly use that word!

Some mornings if I am still in bed when LL wakes up, she gets into bed and snuggles with me, putting her arm around my neck and resting peacefully for a few minutes before requesting to start the morning's activities. This morning, she said, "Mommy, I just love your heart! I'm going to keep you forever!" I know exactly how she feels!!!

A Few More Peeks

We haven't had any major events this month...just our usual routine. And while this is not terribly exciting, I am thankful that other than a few sniffles we've had a good, healthy start to the new year.

AG likes to play games on the computer with all her favorite characters from PBS Kids. She's gotten pretty good with the mouse in the short time she's been playing them, and it's a fun way to spend a little time since we've been inside more lately due to some "cold" weather. She usually wants to play by herself, but here's a rare moment where AG and LL were happily sitting together to play a game...in costume, of course.

T reading with the girls. It's not often that they'll all sit still for a whole story, but SJ had something interesting in her hands so it worked out well this time!

Weekend before last we planted a nice live oak in the middle of our treeless front yard. It will take a long time, but hopefully one day it will be a beautiful, graceful tree for the future generations to enjoy!

I can still fit in the rocker with all three girls! These days are almost gone...

SJ and LL had tons of fun in the bouncer when we went to visit some friends.

Snuggle Bug

One of our favorite things to do these days is turn on some music and dance with the girls. On her own, SJ likes to bounce, clap, or enthusiastically nod her head to the beat, but when we pick her up to dance with us, it turns into a snuggle session! She's always been good at snuggling, but now that she's bigger and seems more into it than ever, T and I are even more "melted" by the whole experience!

She gets plenty of affection from AG and LL but they're a little to active to get very snuggly together!

Another thing SJ has gotten into lately is sitting on the couch. She can't get up by herself yet, but once we help her up she will sometimes sit for a little while if she has a book or a sister to keep her entertained.

A New Year Begins

Finally...I am getting around to posting about the new year just as the first month of it draws to a close! I have totally gotten out of the blogging routine lately, due in part to having spent a lot of time before Christmas compiling a blog book using Blurb. It'll be a great keepsake, and I'm glad I did it, but one of the unexpected effects was that I had enough of thinking about and staring at our blog to last me a long, long time! So if you are considering publishing your blog, go for it, but be forewarned!

We've had a typically busy month, getting back into the routines of work, school, and life in general. The girls are busy as bees and growing like weeds, each moving swiftly through phases and stages in her own way. I think all the time, "I've got to write that down!" and then of course I usually don't. Here are a few photos taken right at the start of the month.

We went to visit our parents for New Year's. Here a very rare sight in our van: SJ asleep. LL does it all the time while we're driving on trips, but SJ almost never falls asleep, even on the longest drives. She was worn out from all the fun (this was on the way home...blogger keeps reversing the order of my photos...any solutions would be welcomed!)

We spent Jan. 2 with my mom's brothers, my aunt, my cousins, their wives and two new babies! Such fun! Here are the girls with Gran and one of the sweet babies!

Another sleeping rarity for SJ...napping on one of us! T rocked her to sleep and of course he loved every minute of it!

Another sweet moment of rocking on the porch with her Daddy. Daddy, her lovie, and her thumb...good thing she doesn't have to choose a favorite!

AG and LL still LOVE to play dress-up. It is so crazy to see them running around in my old dance costumes!

Christmas Part 2: At Our House!

This year we did things a little different than usual. Instead of driving from T's aunt and uncle's house to my parents' house (about 3.5 hours away) on Christmas day as we always have before, we came back to our house and then the next morning my parents came to us. It was so nice to have some Christmas festivities at our house! Although I must admit I didn't do the traditional celebration I'd always envisioned by cooking a huge meal and getting out all the fine china, we did some fun and special things that the girls really enjoyed, and we all enjoyed watching them, playing along, and not worrying about the cooking and dishes so much!

Number one on AG's agenda for Gran and PopPop was having a tea party, which she'd been planning since she heard they were coming to our house for Christmas. As soon as they arrived she set the table up and made sure everyone had all the sweets and drinks they wanted.

We took advantage of the very unwintery weather...it was downright balmy the second day they were here...and spent alot of time outside. The girls were glad to get back into the swings and bouncer, and we had a picnic lunch on the patio.

SJ and LL taking a break to share a snack in the bouncer

SJ got into the sidewalk chalk but she got more on herself than on the ground. With her black fleecy pants, she was basically a big eraser from the waist down!

Even though we did alot of unseasonable activities, we did also have a good time celebrating Christmas in more traditional ways with Gran and PopPop, too! It was fun to open gifts beside our tree and to make some memories at home this year.

Our Family's Christmas: Part 1

Keeping with tradition, we went to visit T's dad's family for our Christmas Eve celebration. We went over early that morning and enjoyed hanging out at Mimi and PawPaw's house. The time was filled with lots of playing, citrus-picking and eating, and a new fun activity for SJ: stair-climbing. Grandpa especially put in his time as her guardian while she climbed over and over, and she loved every minute of it!

That night we went over to T's uncle/aunt/ cousins' house for dinner (crawfish bisque...mmmm)and gifts. It was such a fun time, as usual, and the girls especially loved playing with their cousins, eating fancy cupcakes, and opening some great surprise gifts. We all slept well that night!

Here are a few peeks at Christmas Eve:
LL's favorite: satsumas! She liked picking them, but she LOVES eating them! She reminds me every time: "I can peel it myself!" And then she can make it disappear quick as a wink, too.

SJ had her eye on the appetizers as she sat with Mimi and PawPaw!

"Happy Birthday, baby Jesus!"

AG and Nana

LL welcomed Curious George to the family!

Playing with their dollhouse from Nana and Grandpa on Christmas morning...AG was totally ready to take charge and carry out her plans for arranging the furniture and people in it as soon as it was assembled. LL and SJ were interested, too, and right after I took this picture, AG told SJ, "SJ, you have a poodle to play with!" as if to convince her baby sister that she should be satisfied with her lovie and leave the dollhouse alone! Thankfully, sharing it has not been such an issue since we got home!

AG the reindeer on the ride to Nanoo's for Christmas Day lunch.

This is one to remember...LL actually touching a big dog with a smile on her face! Thanks to Jackie, Nanoo's niece, for being super patient and sweet with the girls as they got to know AJ (up close) and Buddy (background) that day! We need all the positive dog experiences we can get!

We are thankful to have celebrated another special Christmas with Mimi, PawPaw, Nana, Grandpa, and all the great-aunts, great-uncles, and cousins!

LL's Christmas Program

The week before Christmas we went to LL's preschool Christmas program. We were so happy that her grandparents could join us for the evening!

LL walking in...

She was a bit "starstruck" the whole program, looking around with wide eyes and only occasionally singing any of the words, although at home we had heard little else for weeks beforehand. She is usually such a little performer, but then of course it was unprecedented for her to have such a huge audience! She quickly got back into her comfort zone after the program when she saw the trays of cookies awaiting us in the gym...

and her big sister especially liked that part, too!

It was a fun continuation of our holiday festivities. I'm hoping to finish up our Christmas posts this week!

Happy New Year to y'all!
